White Cockatoo (1755) is one of the most famous paintings by the Japanese artist Itō Jakuchū. The painting depicts a white cockatoo perched on a branch of a flowering plum tree, against a background of gold leaf. The cockatoo is painted in a naturalistic style, with its feathers delicately rendered and its eyes bright and alert. The plum tree is painted in a more abstract style, with its blossoms rendered as simple shapes. The gold leaf background adds a sense of luxury and refinement to the painting. The painting is currently in the collection of the Yale University Art Gallery.
