ABOUT THE ARTWORK

“The Summit of Cader Idris Mountain” is an etching and engraving by Edward Rooker and Michael ‘Angelo’ Rooker, after a painting by Richard Wilson. The artwork was published on July 17, 1775. The scene depicts a mountain top with a pool surrounded by a natural semi-circle of rock which peaks in the center. A second slope rises on the right and there is a view across a mountain range to the left, beyond a broad chasm. In the scene, a man is shown looking through a telescope, another man is sitting on the right with an open paper, and a third man holds his horse. The artwork is currently housed in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and the British Museum.
