Franz Marc

Franz Marc (8 February 1880 – 4 March 1916) was a German painter and printmaker, known for his large and bright areas of colors, subject matter that consisted primarily of animals and nature, which were infused with his symbolic and spiritual beliefs. He was a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), an association of German Expressionist artists. Marc’s mature works mostly are animals, and are known for bright colors. Marc was born in Munich, the then capital of the Kingdom of Bavaria.
