“The Great Temple of Aboo-Simble, Nubia” is an illustration by David Roberts, a Scottish artist. The illustration depicts the Great Temple of Ramesses II and the Small Temple of Hathor and Nefertari in Abu Simbel, a village in Aswan Governorate, Upper Egypt. The Great Temple was dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah, as well as to the deified Ramesses himself. The temple was cut into the living rock by Ramesses II in the 13th century BC. The illustration was created in 1846 and is a tinted lithograph with two tints. The illustration is part of the collection of Royal Academy of Arts, London

David Roberts

David Roberts was a Scottish painter born on October 24, 1796, in Stockbridge near Edinburgh, Scotland, and died on November 25, 1864, in London, England. He is especially known for his detailed lithograph prints of Egypt and the Near East that he produced from sketches he made during long tours of the region (1838–1840). He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841.
