David Roberts, a Scottish painter, created a lithograph titled “Statues of Memnon at Thebes, during The Inundation” in 1848. The lithograph depicts the two colossal statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, known as the Colossi of Memnon, located in Thebes, Egypt. The statues are shown during the annual flooding of the Nile River, which was considered a significant event in ancient Egypt. The lithograph is part of the Royal Academy of Arts collection in London.

David Roberts

David Roberts was a Scottish painter born on October 24, 1796, in Stockbridge near Edinburgh, Scotland, and died on November 25, 1864, in London, England. He is especially known for his detailed lithograph prints of Egypt and the Near East that he produced from sketches he made during long tours of the region (1838–1840). He was elected as a Royal Academician in 1841.
