Gustave Caillebotte

Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) was a French painter who was a member and patron of the Impressionists. He was known for his early interest in photography as an art form. Caillebotte's paintings often depicted urban life in Paris, including street scenes and views of the city from high vantage points. He recorded the spectacle of urban life as it unfolded below his window, capturing the movement of carriages, omnibuses, and people between big trees and houses. Caillebotte was also a collector of Impressionist art and helped to finance several Impressionist exhibitions.
