ABOUT THE ARTIST

Maurice Pillard Verneuil was a French artist and decorator known for his work in the Art Nouveau movement. Born in 1869, he was trained by Swiss designer Eugène Grasset. Verneuil’s designs, inspired by Japanese art and nature, spanned both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. He is particularly known for his bold, floral designs in ceramic tiles, wallpapers, and other furnishing textiles. His work also includes numerous poster works in France. He trained many artists and continued to contribute to the art world until his death in 1942.
