This artwork is the “Holland Park Carpet” designed by William Morris, is a testament to Morris’s craftsmanship and attention to detail. It is hand-knotted with wool and features a complex geometric pattern, primarily consisting of diamond shapes adorned with ornate designs. Each diamond showcases an elaborate floral design while the deep reds, golds, blacks, and whites create a rich and luxurious appearance, embodying the regal essence of the Renaissance era. This carpet was commissioned by Alexander A. Ionides for the Marble Hall of his home at Holland Park.

William Morris

His firm, Morris & Co., became renowned for producing high-quality, handcrafted decorative arts and furnishings. Beyond his contributions to design, Morris was a prolific writer and poet.
