In this artwork, Roberts captures the ominous and dramatic atmosphere of the desert, particularly the approach of the simoom, a hot, dry wind laden with sand. The scene likely portrays the vastness and harsh conditions of the Desert of Gizeh near the Giza Plateau in Egypt. Roberts' meticulous attention to detail and ability to convey the intensity of the environment make this illustration a powerful representation of the challenging and awe-inspiring nature of the desert landscape.
